Laboratory Worktops

Three things to think about when choosing laboratory worktops

When it comes to designing your laboratory and choosing your laboratory furniture, don’t forget to give careful consideration to your laboratory worktops. Worktops and countertops get lots of use, and are subject to damage if exposed to non-complementary applications. This article explores three things to consider when choosing your laboratory worktops.

  1. Type of work being done. Before choosing your laboratory worktops, be sure to consider the type of work being done on your countertops. Some worktops are not only unable to withstand certain chemicals, but they can also have an adverse effect on them. Be sure to talk to your laboratory furniture representative about how you plan to use your countertops, and what surfaces will best stand up to and support that use.
  2.  Frequency of use. If there are large numbers of users in your laboratory, the type of laboratory worktops you choose become critically important. Laboratory worktops are expensive, and you’ll want to get as many years out of them as possible. Choosing a countertop that can stand up to heavy use – one that is strong and resistant to wear and tear – is necessary.
  3. Hygiene. If hygiene is important in your laboratory, be sure to tell your laboratory furniture representative. Some laboratory worktop materials are more porous than others. If cleanliness and hygiene is important, you’ll want to choose a material that is less porous and easier to clean.
