Laboratory Countertops: Durable, Rugged, and Stylish
When it comes to designing your laboratory, the type of countertop you choose is important. Countertops must be strong and durable enough to withstand your laboratory’s specific environment, which in most cases means being chemical resistant, non-flammable, and non-absorbent.
Types of Laboratory Countertops
Laboratory countertops are typically made from epoxy resins, phenolic resins, or plastic laminate. Choosing Laboratory Countertops

- Use. What kinds of chemicals do you use in your laboratory? Be sure to choose countertops that resist heat, abrasions, and chemicals. In certain situations, you’ll also want to make sure that your countertops are physically strong enough and able to withstand certain impacts.
- Ease of Cleaning. For safety reasons, it’s important that laboratory countertops are impermeable, easy to clean, and resistant to stains, bacteria, and fungi.
- Other considerations. Choose countertops that are aesthetically pleasing, that are harmonious with your lab design, that complement electrical and mechanical needs, and that suit the needs of your primary users.
